TREK HIGHLIGHTS

The Gasa–Laya–Gasa Trek is a remote Himalayan journey through the high valleys of northern Bhutan, combining spectacular mountain scenery, pristine wilderness, and the unique culture of the Layap people. Starting from Gasa, the trek follows ancient trails through Jigme Dorji National Park, crossing alpine landscapes, forests, and yak-grazing pastures before reaching the remote village of Laya. Highlights include encounters with Layap traditions, panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, opportunities to observe Bhutan’s rare wildlife, and a relaxing finish at the famous Gasa Tshachu (hot springs).

DAY 1
Gasa – Goen Damji – Tashithang – Trek Start

Drive from Gasa towards the trailhead and begin trekking through subtropical forests and remote mountain landscapes. The trail gradually enters the wilderness of Jigme Dorji National Park, with views of rivers, waterfalls, and diverse vegetation.

DAY 2
Trek towards Laya Region

Continue ascending through forested trails and mountain ridges. The route offers changing landscapes, from lush valleys to higher alpine environments, with chances to see Himalayan birds and wildlife.

DAY 3
Trek to Laya Village

Reach Laya, one of Bhutan’s most remote settlements, located at a high altitude and inhabited by the Layap community. Explore the village, experience local culture, and observe traditional lifestyles, including distinctive clothing and customs.

DAY 4
Explore Laya / Acclimatization Day

A rest and exploration day in Laya. Walk around the village, interact with locals, and enjoy views of surrounding peaks and valleys.

Laya – Return Trek towards Gasa

Begin the return journey through the same spectacular mountain environment. The descent provides different perspectives of the landscape and allows more time to appreciate the flora and fauna.

DAY 6
Continue Trek Back to Gasa

Continue descending through forests and mountain trails, eventually reconnecting with the Gasa region.
